PIC16F876A / PIC16F877A Upgrade

#1 Post by germanboy » 25 Mar 2009 11:42

Hi folks!!

I´m thinking about upgrading some of my projects from PIC16F87XA to the PIC18F series and I would like to ask if any of you could indicate a PIC18F that works really smooth in mikroPascal.
I once tried the P18F2620 and I didn't like it that much, not because of mikroPascal but because of the devices performance itself.

Thanks a lot

I prefer the 18F4520 because:
1- It has the features I want
2- It is least expensive at Futurlec
3- It is popular so there are many examples available

Your needs may be different, I am an old guy and this is a hobby!

Thanks a lot for your opinion.
I will check out the datasheet and see if it fits.

Everybody else´s recommendations are still welcome.

Thanks

The identical sister for the PIC16F877A is the PIC18F452. It's still in production and available.

The 18F4520 is promoted as the future '452 but the 4520 is not as compatible in features and functions.

If you're looking for a quick and easy migration with pin compatibility and moving '877A sourcecode to a PIC18 with little or no changes, then the '452 is your PIC.

As you develop with PIC18, the 18F4520 is an excellent choice by making available much more processing power.

Hi,

0K, I guess the decision is taken.

I´ll use the 252 for the 876A and the 452 for the 877A.

Thanks for helping me choosing the right option.

  • I know about the PIC18F1220/ 1320, and also the PIC18F1320/ 1330. Thse are 18pin. The '1220 is about USD$3.00 at Mouser Electronics.
