Debugger and 16F18325

I have a Microprog and I am running mikroprog suite v 2.9. The PIC is a 16F18325. It seems to program the pic correctly but when I try to go into debug I get reset errors and the debugger won't start. I am thinking the wiring is correct since it is programming the PIC. I am powering the pic externally. None of the lines for programming are being used for IO so only those pins on the PIC they are connected only to the mikroprog. I updated the firmware in the microprog

Anyone run into this?
