Support for PIC16F1513

#1 Post by steve42lawson » 23 Jan 2014 19:53

The PIC16F1513 doesn't appear to be in the list of supported devices. Am I looking in the wrong place? If not, and there truly is no support for this device, then is it in the works? Estimated time of arrival?

Is there a workaround -- i.e. another part # that is close enough to get by on?

Is there a beta that supports this device?

Hi,

At this moment PIC16F1513 isn't supported in our PIC compilers (mikroC PRO for PIC).
It will be supported in next compiler release.

Thank you for your patience.

Best regards,
Marina

Is there a target date for that release, that we can know about?

When is that. A company sets it's own financing time table. What is ME's?

Hi,

At this moment we are working on new PIC compiler update (supporting new microcontrollers and more),
so therefore, we expect that the compiler release will be soon.
I can't know for sure the exact data of release, but is planned for the first quarter of this year, like I already mention.

We are giving our best to support new microcontrollers in our compilers as quickly as possible,
but as we have many ongoing projects we can't give the exact dates.

Once again, thank you for your patience.

Best regards,
Marina

Respectfully, if ME is putting new feature development [the "more" in your statement] before keeping existing product current (and bug free), then ME is not giving it there "best". ALL development should be focused on supporting ALL PICs in production, before any resources are applied to new features [of course, if you have enough staff of do both, then this is mute].

That is just good customer support.

I'm having to resort to MPLab X/XC8[Free version] to get my project done, and, frankly, it just isn't as nice. For instance, in MikroC, I can do preprocessor calculations in a const declaration. No such luck with XC8. Also, compile/link is far faster in MikroC. The only two advantages to using MPlabX are:

1. I can use my PICkit 3 directly from the IDE [doesn't offset the incredible slowness of the compile/link cycle].
2. XC8 provides pragmas for including Config Bit information in the code [I really like that!].

I paid for MikroC--I should be able to use MikroC!

Hi,

I understand your remark.
When I said that at this moment we are working on new PIC compiler update, supporting new microcontrollers and more,
I meant that we also trying to remove some problem/bugs besides adding the support for new microcontrollers.

Best regards,
Marina

It's well into the first quarter is a release coming soon? If not a full release how about a least adding support for at least some of the newer PIC's.
Is ME phasing out of 8b PIC's?

At this moment we are working on new PIC compiler release.
In new release we will try to support as many new PIC microcontrollers as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

This is end of April the first quarter has passed many days already

They are phasing out all Microchip products in my opinion no MCHP compiler updates the last year against 3 ARM compiler updates and many development boards with ARM vendor components on

The word "soon" has some interesting interpretations. I've spent my life attempting to understand the exact duration. This has led to the realization that the timing is relative to some unspecified context. Solve the context and planning becomes more concrete. ;)

I hope not, but then they didn't answer my question.

I have started using some of ST'S and PSOC ARM micro's but I still think 8b PIC's have there uses and will be around for a while yet. I was thinking of using ME's ARM compiliers but now quite frankly I don't trust them. When the next latest and greatest micro comes out will they stop working on the ARM compiliers? I think I'll stick with CoCoox for my ARM needs.

MCHP do not only make 8 bit controllers a dsPIC33EP or a PIC32 has more power per mega herts than any ARM M3
The PIC32MZ runs at 200Mhz the fastes Flash Mico on the market with the Highest DMIPS or Coremarks
