New to C and ME :-) [locked double post]

#1 Post by RayE » 10 Sep 2008 11:33

Hi All,
Im new to C and ME products. I have come from a background of PIC16 and PIC18 chips using Proton basic with a sprinkling of assembler and I must say it is an excellent product with very good support. I need to move on to PIC24 and DSP hence im here. I do not like C but ive decided to hit the learning curve and use it. I was just interested in hearing some general comments from users on the following before I make the move.
1. C code efficiency compared to basic?
2. ME support in general? Are bugs etc dealt with promptly?
3. The PIC24/PIC33 dev board?
4. 4. Are uses happy with the ME product?

Any comments, thanks
RayE

1. Haven't seen any difference between C and mE Basic. I stick with Basic.

2. mE support is good and so is the forum (though, since there is generally not much difference between 8 bit and 16 bit with respect to mE Basic, I usually find the regular Basic forum more helpful.

3. I use the EasydsPic4 and easyPic3 dev boards and thinks they're great

4. Very happy: price, support and products are great. And, software upgrades are free. You can try out the demo

My only caution is: don't be the first to upgrade your software to the next version - let others find the bugs, if any.
