In the supported PIC chips list (on the EP7 page), you list the PIC18F47J53. This chip is a 44 (TQFP/QFN) chip, I don't think it's supported directly on EP7

yeah Mince-n-Tatties, that's what I said: look at what's written (marking) inside the 28 pin chip :
this datasheet is for the PIC18FxxJ53 family, and the 28 pin is for the PIC18F2xJ53. the 18F47J53 exists only in 44 pin packages (TQFP, QFN).
