18F4550 USB Control

Hi Guys
I'm using mikrobasic pro I have done some small project with good success but not want to move on to controlling a pic the 18F4550 with usb.
But don't know where to start and if I need a boot loader or not I have read some articles but getting more confused.
I want to use the pic as a interface to control eight outputs to leds and eight switches as inputs to pc but how do i get the switch input to go through to the USB.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance

Hi,

If you want to use a hardware programmer, then you will not need the bootloader.
